Dr. Austen Ivereigh
author of “The Great Reformer:
Francis and the Making of a Radical Pope”.

British writer and journalist specializing in the Catholic Church and the papacy of Francis.  He writes regularly for publications in the UK and the US, including The Tablet, Crux, America, Thinking Faith, The Guardian and The New York Times.

He has a doctorate from Oxford University on the topic of the Church and politics in Argentina, from which he drew for his highly regarded biography of Pope Francis, The Great Reformer: Francis and the Making of a Radical Pope (HenryHolt/Picador 2015), which has been translated into 9 languages.

His new book on the pontificate, A Heart for Change: Inside the Tension of Pope Francis’s Reform, also published by Henry Holt, will be out later this year (2019)

Dr. Ivereigh is also co- founder of a Church communications project, Catholic Voices (www.catholicvoices.org.uk), now present in a number of countries. His book How to Defend the Faith Without Raising Your Voice: Civil Responses to Catholic Hot-button Issues (Our Sunday Visitor, 2012 & 2015) has also been translated into many languages.

Between 2000 and 2004 he was deputy editor of The Tablet, after which he worked for a time as public affairs director for the former Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor.

He lives in the UK between Reading and Oxford with his wife Linda, traveling regularly to Rome and Latin America.
